FEBRUARY ARTIST IN RESIDENCY
Irene Koroluk will be using her industrial sewing machine as her drawing tool, creating intricate and beautiful Tasmanian landscapes in the hotel Lobby for the month of February!
After completing her Masters Degree in Environment Studies and Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania, Irene was caught off guard by a textiles exhibition in the Istanbul
Modern. She found it refreshing and unusual to encounter a National Gallery which valued the feminine, and where many of the works, including some exhibited by men, incorporated
traditional female craft processes. This influenced her art practice, focusing her attention to free motion stitching sewing and embroidery.
Irene’s artworks can be found in the hotel foyer and along the first floor corridors. Please see the Artist in Residence sign for times and dates the artist will be on-site. More information
about the artist is also available through our art catalogue.
